Hummus'
Not Kosher for Passover
**Not kosher for Passover.**
Traditional hummus is made from chickpeas (kitniyot), which Ashkenazi Jews prohibit during Passover to avoid confusion with chametz (leavened grains). Sephardic Jews may allow kitniyot, but standard hummus also often contains garlic/onions (additional kitniyot concerns) and isn't certified Passover-kosher. Only specially prepared, certified versions without kitniyot or chametz would qualify.
What is Kosher for Passover?
Foods that are kosher for Passover are foods that do not contain chametz or chametz residues.
What is Chametz?
Chametz is any food containing one of the five grains (wheat, barley, rye, oats, spelt) that has leavened.
